Clinton, Essex, Franklin Library System (CEFLS) received funding from the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts to provide the Traveling Lantern Theatre Show “Legends and Myths from Mount Olympus” at twelve library locations this year. However, due to the COVID-19 issues, the theater company will only be providing it virtually.

“From their protected perch on Mount Olympus, the gods of ancient Greece spin their magic and subterfuge into fantastic landscapes while they conjure cunning exploits for the humans they choose to meddle with far below.  Whimsical and daring adventures from the ancient civilization by the sea.   Children become the mountains and the wind as they watch Icarus and Daedalus fly free on wax wings, help tell the story as they witness Ceyx and Alcyone’s love morph into fantasy so they can stay together for all time, and stave off evil with bravery and courage as Perseus battles the snake-headed Medusa and ultimately turns her into stone.“

Belden Noble Memorial Library has a unique code to offer the show to area residents and even school personnel.  Our code will make the show available for one week (Sunday July 19 at 5pm (Pacific Time) through Saturday July 25). Then go to www.travelinglantern.com and click on the virtual performances link; then click on Greek video and input the code and enjoy the show.

Medusa Mask Kits Available

The grant also enabled CEFLS to provide BNML with art materials for children to create a Medusa mask. We invite you to contact our library for the mask kit by calling 518-963-8079 during open hours or e-mail beldennoblelibrary@gmail.com.

Library hours are Mondays and Tuesdays 2:00 to 4:00, Wednesdays 10:00-12:00,Thursdays & Fridays Noon to 5pm, and Saturdays 10am to 5pm. 

Requests from BNML can be made by calling 518-963-8079 during library hours, or by e-mailing  beldennoblelibrary@gmail.com any time.  Our Clinton Essex Franklin Library System (CEFLS) interlibrary loan service is available.  Your BNML membership card can be used at all CEFLS member libraries.  On-line Requesting is also available for our library and all CEFLS member libraries.  Requests will be filled when the library is staffed on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.  As always, requests will be on a first come, first served basis, and your name will be placed in a queue for high demand items.

To search for books, you can visit the online catalog on our website at www.essexlibrary.org.  From the top of our home page, select “Search the Catalog“, and then you can select “Search Essex Library Collection” or “Search All CEF Library Collections” to find library materials that interest you. There are also options to narrow your search.

Please be respectful of the due dates.  Library materials may be returned to our Book Return Bin located outside the library at any time.

Mark and Erin purchased their home on Lakeshore Road in 2006 and took on the task of restoring and improving the structure (learning a lot from friends and neighbors along the way).
Mark was born in Montreal and raised in Providence RI, where he graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He later worked for the award-winning architecture firm Samyn & D’Elia Architects. Several years later, having found Essex and the Adirondacks, Mark’s entrepreneurial spirit was sparked and he formed Hall Design Group.
Erin graduated from RISD with a degree in textile design and then worked for several residential textile mills in the U.S. and abroad. Her textile background was a natural fit with Hall Design Group, where she assists clients selecting interior finishes and furnishings. Five years ago, she started Erin Hall Studio, a thriving home décor and online gift shop featuring her hand silkscreened products.

Lawson’s roots in Essex go back to 1903 when her paternal grandmother first rented a house at the Crater Club and then bought John Burnham’s Camp in 1913. She is a clinical social worker who worked at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and as a school counselor. She is currently a gallery instructor to school groups at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
Clint is a serial entrepreneur. He grew up in Brockton, Mass. (a “shoe town”), went to Harvard on full scholarship, and then to Wall Street. He has built and run many businesses from writing books while in college to his current position as founder and president of the American College of Corporate Directors.
They will discuss these and additional experiences at the event.

Did you know the Belden Noble Library has museum passes you can borrow? The passes are available to valid card holders only and must be picked up at and returned to the Belden Noble library – they cannot be sent via inter-library loan.  Passes are on a first-come first serve basis and can not be reserved. Passes must be returned within 3 days of check out.
